The Need for Support
The Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust was formed in 2007, and in just ten years, has raised over £4.5m to restore three of Llanthony’s Grade I and II listed buildings, improve the landscape and conserve the other important standing structures on the site. We are an independent charity which receives no regular funding or support.
All donations we receive help us to preserve and protect this very special scheduled ancient monument at the heart of Gloucester Docks.

Volunteering your time and skills is a great way to support us as we embark on our next chapter. Volunteers are playing a crucial role as we establish a new heritage site for the city of Gloucester. We have numerous volunteering opportunities, whether you are able to spare just a couple of minutes, or commit to something more regular.
Engage in Gloucester
Would like to volunteer at Llanthony Secunda Priory? Perhaps you already volunteer elsewhere in the city? Llanthony’s volunteering opportunities are advertised on the Engage in Gloucester website. Engage in Gloucester promotes the city’s heritage and cultural volunteering roles. Join Engage in Gloucester, take part, and help Gloucester’s arts, cultural and heritage scene thrive.
Our more regular volunteering roles are a great way to boost your CV, meet like-minded people, improve or learn new skills. We support all our volunteers by offering training and shadowing where required.
Our History Group researchers help uncover stories about people that lived at Llanthony from the 1100s to the present day. As a volunteer archive researcher, you can help us gather information and images which help document Llanthony’s rich and fascinating past.
We are looking to recruit a team of conservation specialists who will routinely take care of our newly restored buildings, and help us to deliver the conservation management plan. We would love to hear from volunteers who enjoy practical hands-on work, especially those with heritage crafts or conservation skills who would like to share their knowledge with others. We will provide training in heritage crafts such as lime pointing, for those wishing to learn or would like to brush up on their skills.
Our friendly and enthusiastic event stewards help run events and activities at Llanthony Secunda Priory by setting out rooms and spaces, visitor counts, refreshments, checking tickets. Event stewarding is a rewarding role, and you might even get to soak up the arts and culture for free!
Help keep Llanthony looking lovely all year round. Meet new friends, keep fit, and make a real difference as a volunteer grounds keeper. With 5 acres to care for, there is plenty to do to ensure this scheduled ancient monument is protected.
Love history? Fascinated by architecture and archaeology? Our knowledgeable guides enjoy sharing their passion for the past with visitors, residents and tourists. Many guides build on their knowledge through archive research of their own.
