Volunteering

Volunteering your time and skills is a great way to support us as we embark on our next chapter. Volunteers are playing a crucial role as we establish a new heritage site for the city of Gloucester. We have numerous volunteering opportunities, whether you are able to spare just a couple of minutes, or commit to something more regular.

Engage in Gloucester
Would like to volunteer at Llanthony Secunda Priory? Perhaps you already volunteer elsewhere in the city? Llanthony’s volunteering opportunities are advertised on the Go Volunteer Glos website https://www.govolunteerglos.org/. Go Volunteer Glos is linking people aged 16 and over into the largest and widest choice of local volunteering opportunities from a wide range of organisations, including charities and community groups, across our county. Volunteering Roles

Our more regular volunteering roles are a great way to boost your CV, meet like-minded people, improve or learn new skills. We support all our volunteers by offering training and shadowing where required.

Open Day Host
Our hosts help visitors to explore Llanthony Secunda on our open days. Share insights of the Re-formation Project and show visitors inside the recently transformed buildings and spaces.

Tour Guide
Love history? Fascinated by architecture and archaeology? Our knowledgeable guides enjoy sharing their passion for the past with visitors, residents and tourists. Many guides build on their knowledge through archive research of their own.

Event Steward
Our friendly and enthusiastic event stewards help run events and activities at Llanthony Secunda Priory by setting out rooms and spaces, visitor counts, refreshments, checking tickets. Event stewarding is a rewarding role, and you might even get to soak up the arts and culture for free!

Grounds and Buildings Maintenance
Help keep Llanthony looking lovely all year round. Meet new friends, keep fit, and make a real difference as a volunteer grounds keeper. With 5 acres to care for, there is plenty to do to ensure this scheduled ancient monument is protected.

Clement Cafe

As a café volunteer you will be supporting our takeaway catering outlet, helping to increase income for Llanthony as an independent heritage charity and ensuring that our visitors have an enjoyable experience.

What our volunteers say about volunteering at Llanthony

“Doing something useful for an important part of the City’s heritage and getting fresh air and exercise at the same time.” David.

“I was pleased to help in a very small way restore such an important but derelict site on my doorstep. I'm a history buff so this was just the place for me”. Mark.

“I would recommend volunteering as it gives me a sense of purpose without a lot of pressure and satisfactorily fills the gap that often arises in our lives once we retire and find ourselves with a lot of spare time!”  Gillian.
