Heritage Open Days at Llanthony Secunda Priory

Join us for Heritage Open Days 2026 and discover Llanthony Secunda Priory, a scheduled ancient monument in the heart of Gloucester. For three days, you can explore our historic five-acre site and step inside some of our beautiful listed buildings – all completely free.
Llanthony Open Days

Founded in 1136, Llanthony Secunda was once an important Augustinian Priory. Today, its fascinating history can be discovered throughout our five acres of grounds.
During Heritage Open Days, our historic buildings will be open to explore, with friendly and knowledgeable volunteers on hand to share stories about the Priory and the people who shaped its history.

Guided Tours of Llanthony Secunda Priory
Friday 11 September, 11am & 2pm

Take a guided tour of Llanthony Secunda's Grade I and Grade II listed buildings and discover more about the people and events that shaped its 900-year history.
Hear stories of the Priors and Patrons of Llanthony, as well as connections to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward II, Henry VII and many more.

Tours are limited to 15 people.
GLOUCESTER AFC
There will be a Gloucester AFC display, documenting the history of the club, on site throughout the weekend.
On Saturday 12 September, the Gloucester AFC Foundation will also be joining us from 10am–12pm.
There will be tours at the football ground too, giving visitors the chance to discover another fascinating part of Gloucester's heritage. Click on the links below to book as pre-booking required.

A SPECIAL EXHIBITION
This year, we'll have a special exhibition in the beautiful 16th-century Henry Dene Hall, featuring previously unseen documents, plans and images from Llanthony's more recent history.

LIVE MUSIC WITH BYGONZ
On Sunday 13 September, we're delighted to welcome Bygonz to Llanthony!
From 11am–3pm, the musical duo will be wandering around the site, playing music, chatting with visitors about their instruments and sharing the history behind the music.

Join us for our September History Huddle with Kayleigh Ackerman, exploring the fascinating story of St Oswald's Priory and its place in Gloucester's history.
St Oswald's Priory is one of Gloucester's lesser-known historic sites, yet it was once an important royal centre and the burial place of royalty. Discover how the remains of St Oswald were brought to Gloucester in 909 and what the subsequent decline of the priory can tell us about the success of this ambitious royal foundation.
