My Journey with Stone
Solo Stone Sculpture Exhibition by Deborah Harrison
Llanthony Secunda Priory, Henry Dene Hall
1-16 August, 10am – 6pm
This selling exhibition marks a decade of stone carving by Gloucester-based sculptor Deborah Harrison, bringing together a striking collection of works that reflect her evolving practice and deep connection to the material.
It is especially fitting that the exhibition takes place at Llanthony Secunda Priory, where Deborah’s full-time journey into stone carving began following the Gloucester Stone Carving Festival in 2015. She later honed her skills with a year of formal study in stone masonry at Bath College.
Since then, Deborah has carved over 125 pieces and received six awards, building a strong reputation supported by the Gloucester community and beyond. In 2023, she was commissioned - through funding from local individuals and businesses via the Priory - to create a stone lamprey pie as Gloucester’s coronation gift to King Charles III. The piece was presented at Highgrove Gardens in 2025, continuing a centuries-old civic tradition.

A founder member of Gloucester Contemporary Artists and the Cotswold Sculptors Association, Deborah has exhibited widely across the UK, with works held in collections in Europe and the USA. Notable collectors include Gloucestershire NHS Trust, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, and Sir Malcolm Evans, former Chair of the UN Committee Against Torture.
Working with a range of stone, Deborah is particularly known for her alabaster sculptures. Her intuitive carving process responds to the natural form, grain, and colour of each piece, revealing the image within the stone.
